I'm having the precise same issue. Have been through the SL wiki page (which actually doesn't say a lot in terms of configuration, just how things "should" work). Have enabled the SN via the SL Preference > Move and View, etc. All i'm getting is zooming in and out of my avatar - no flycam ...
