This thread helped, the same function works for Solid Edge ST8 as well as ST7. I did want to add, I use a Logitech G700s mouse and it has a lot of functions that you can map commands to instead of just using the 3D space Pilot. I primarily use Catia and it is a must have to program short cut buttons.

I hate to bump an old thread, but is this still the case? I to did an upgrade to XI at work and no longer have functionality, even with the latest drivers.
