I found a solution: install the latest driver for the SpaceMouse Compact, excluding the SketchUp plugin. Then download the oldest SpaceNavigator driver available, extract the file (using e.g. 7Zip), and install only the SketchUp plugin.

I previously used a SpaceNavigator 3D Mouse in Google SketchUp 8.0.4811. Unfortunately, the mouse got damaged and I had to buy a SpaceMouse Compact which looks like a very similar product.
