Makes no difference at all.

How can you swap the left and right button options? The Preference Pane app is different to that shown on the 3Dconnextion web site and there is no option for any button other than Middle.

The 3dConnexion Preference Pane is different to that shown in the Manual. There is no option to swap the left and right hand buttons. How can this be achieved if there if nothing to elect?
