It will work as a 2D mouse if 3DxWare 10 for MacOS is not installed and the SpaceMouse is connected. However, as soon as the driver is installed, it will no longer work as a 2D mouse for Safari and Adobe Reader. Obviously, much of the functionality will not be available without the 3DxWare software....

I found the same. Also, if I uninstall the driver and plug the receiver in, it works as a 2D mouse, but obviously without a lot of functionality. So it looks like the driver itself is causing the system to not see it as a 2D mouse.
