I am using AVG 8 antivirus software. I used the console to disable the loading of the AVG services upon booting, restarted the computer and verified that the antivirus control application and AVG services were not loaded. I followed the directions to perorm a clean install and the symptoms continue to persist.

I did an experiment where I found out that putting the computer to sleep does not cause plugin failure as shutting the computer down completely does.

What is the next step?

in the "About 3DxWare" window as accessed from the 3Dconnexion control panel it reads:

Release Version: 3.6.7
(Driver Version: 6.6.1)
Firmware Version: 4.05

Each time I install, the installer checks for the latest updates and confirms that it is the latest one.
