The steps I use to remap are as you stated in your post. Yes, I can manipulate the model/assembly with the puck and all the demos work. It is strictly the buttons that won't work.

I map the way I always have, with the control panel. I'm noticing, too, that the default buttons don't work either.
I've been using 3Dconnexion devices for a number of years and never had such problems.
