Not everyone has that much to modify a device they spent hundreds of dollars on already just to be able to use that same device without being covered in sticky goo.
Yours looks great though, perhaps 3Dconnection can hire you as their product designer!

Sadly the sticky rubber coating problem only happens after the warranty is up on these products. I got fed up and tossed my Spacemouse because it was unusable due to this sticky mess on the rubber coated surfaces.

We pay good money for these expensive products and we shouldn't have to remove a surface finish because it is faulty. The customer shouldn't have to modify the product to be able to use it as intended. The poor excuse of "the environment, PH of the user, etc., is not an answer for a faulty surf...
