Wheel does not work as expected (neither on Win10 nor on Linux)

Post by ruko42 »

I have 2 CadMouse Compact Wireless. One at a Win10 (with a recent 3Dconnexion driver). The other at a OpenSuse 15.3 (with installed spacenavd).
Both have the same nasty behavior:
Scrolling with the wheel does NOT work as expected:

when moving the wheel one position:
- sometimes nothing happens
- sometimes the window scrolls one page instead of one line
- sometimes it scrolls to the end of the page

when moving the wheel more positions
- sometimes it does not stop scrolling - it should!
- sometimes it scrolls back, even when I move the wheel forward.

As said, this happens at both, Win 10 and Leap 15.3 - with or without the "drivers".

This (= scrolling with the wheel) is a basic functionality of recent mice. It is a NoGo if this doesn't work.

So, what can I do, to solve this faulty behavior?

Have been having the same issue as you in recent weeks.
The scroll wheel behaves erratically (if at all) and instantaneously changes direction without warning.

Have also been running Windows 11 for many months without issue so I'm pretty certain the OS isn't the issue.
Could be a recent driver for the device that affects only the scrolling function??? All other aspects of the device and its accompanying SpaceMouse are working faultlessly.

I'm suspecting it's a hardware issue with a component attached to the wheel itself. I'm not a super aggressive user (CAD only) and barely use it for more than 4 hours per day. (It's still under warranty)

Call tech support to see if the device should be replaced

Yeah, already lodged a claim request with my local reseller here in Sydney. I don't believe it's a common fault gauged by the limited number of posts I've encountered about it here. Anyway, that's what a warranty is for I guess. It's been faultless otherwise.

Apparently they have some QC issues ... I have the exact same issue with my CadMouse Pro Wireless
I was hoping that this was the perfect mouse for me, but the scrollwheel kinda ruins the fun.

Hi,
Had the same issue, I've just taken the mouse apart and cleaned the encoder contacts with isopropyl alcohol on a small brush and that has
resolved the problems.

you need to turn the mouse off,
remove the glide pads on the bottom of the mouse,
undo the four screws and open the case,
disconnect the top cover and battery,
clean the encoder contacts with alcohol on a small brush,
allow to dry completely and reassemble.

I'm kinda disappointed with the quality of this component and that there is no real dust cover to stop crud getting into it.
expected better in such an expensive item.

Good luck.

Hi
I have the same problem. But if I connect the mouse by USB cable to the PC, the problem disappears. As long as the cable is in, it's all right. Mouse unplugged, the wheel becomes crazy...

Same problem, I opened a support request, let's see what they say.
I am not going to disassemble the mouse to clean it, as this would invalidate the warranty.

Mouse: CAD Mouse Pro
OS: Win10
