Why SN PE doesn't work with Maya 2009

Post by panatpong »

Today, I have just purchased my first SN PE. It works incredibly well with Google Earth. However, it seems that Maya 2009 doesn't recognize my 3D mouse, although I have installed 3DxMacWare (PE) v.1.5.6. Do I have to set anything in Maya up before I can use it?

Hi,
What happens if you type "MagellanStartup;" on the MEL prompt?
Do you see errors in the console after starting Maya?

My SpaceNavigator does not seem to work with Maya either. Does anyone know anything that might be able to help me?

Thanks

Hi,

Please try the following:
A) Open the 3DConnexion Control Panel
B) Select "Configure -> Install Plug-Ins..."

Does it work then?

SN works but ...

Post by giosuebox »

Hi to all you guys, so i managed to install the SN for notebook driver into my MBP ... but when Maya is launched happens something strange.

The scene camera begins to zoom out by itself, so i can' get in control of the scene and the object gets far away atuomatically.

So please tell me if i've done something wrong during the installation.

Greetings

It seems you must "calibrate" the device - please push the "Calibrate" button (Preferences -> Other -> 3Dconnexion) with nothing touching the device cap. Does it work then?

Uhm, actually i don't see the voice "OVER" under preferences menu. My Maya version is the 2009 Unlimited.

So please tell me where i can found the panel for the callibration.

This article shows how to find the System Preferences (sorry for not making this clear). There will be a section named "Other" - there you will find the 3Dconnexion Preference Panel.

SpaceNavigator works perfectly in Rhino. I love it! But why is it so difficult to make it work the same in Maya? It seems that in Rhino it functions somewhere between "focal point" and "scence/object" but it Maya the controls are pretty much useless. I'm using Maya 2009 x64 complete.

I'm also having the same problem in maya 2009.

On starting maya I get this printed out in the Script Editor

Code: Select all

// Warning: Move Scene //
// Warning: Rotate around center of Camera! //
// Warning: Fly mode on! //
// Warning: Rotation Scale 1 //
// Warning: Translation Scale 1 //
// Error: Plug-in, "3DxMaya" was compiled against too old a version of the Maya API and is thus incompatible with the current Maya version. (3DxMaya) //
// Warning: No Magellan device found. Start 3DxWare and then restart Maya
 //
file -f -new;
// untitled //

also tried
MagellanStartup;

Code: Select all

// Error: Plug-in, "3DxMaya.bundle", was not found on MAYA_PLUG_IN_PATH. //
The prefs about says it has found 1 device and the driver version number is 1.5.6, firmware 4.04

I found "3DxMaya.bundle" in /Users/Shared/Autodesk/maya
Tried to manually load this plugin but maya the same error again...

Code: Select all

// Error: Plug-in, "3DxMaya" was compiled against too old a version of the Maya API and is thus incompatible with the current Maya version. (3DxMaya) //
Hope its a quick fix

Cheers

Hi Yellowhey,

It appears some 3Dconnexion Maya files were not placed in their correct location. 3DxMaya.bundle should reside in /Users/Shared/Autodesk/maya/2009/plug-ins.

Please check to see if a 3DxMaya.bundle exists in that directory. If there is one, backup then delete the 3DxMaya.bundle file in /Users/Shared/Autodesk/maya

I'll email you the bundle file in case you don't have it
