Config file disappearing

Post by gowrath »

I'm using a SpaceMouse Wireless with 3DXWare 10.8.7.
The XML file for the Altair Hyperworks application (FEA software), disappears from the \AppData\Roaming\3Dconnexion\3DxWare\Cfg directory.
When I edit a property via the 3DXWare interface, a "HyperWorks.XML" file is created. But when I close the application, the file disappears and the settings are gone. So every time I open the applications, I have to re-set the spacemouse settings.
Is there a way to fix this so the file and settings persist?

Thanks.

Is it being moved to the %appdata%/3Dconnexion/3DxWare/Cfg/bak dir?

There's something about that file the driver doesn't like. Generally an XML syntax error, invalid character, etc.

Turn on logging (3Dx systray icon->RMB->Write Log File).
Restart the driver (Start menu->3Dconnexion->Stop/Start).
Start Hyperworks, make your changes, then stop Hyperworks.
See if the Hyperworks.xml gets moved to the bak dir.

Please PM me the log file (%LocalAppData%/3Dconnexion/3DxWare/3DxService.log) (and the Hyperworks.bak file from the bak dir if it is there)

Thanks.

It is indeed being moved to the .../Cfg/bak directory.
I followed your instructions. The xml file remained in the .../Cfg directory when I closed Hyperworks. As soon as I restarted Hyperworks, the file moved to the .../bak directory.
I tried sending you a message but I don't have permission yet because I'm new.
Can I post the log here?

Hi there, I'm wondering if there's been any resolution to this issue? I'm experiencing a similar problem with Tekla Structures.

XML config file works OK until the driver restarts which then moves it to the BAK folder. Copy/paste of backed up XML into CFG folder also gets moved directly to the BAK folder when driver is running.

CadMouse Pro Wireless Left
3DxWare version 10.8.7.3448

Thanks.

I'd like to see the file that is being moved to the bak dir. Can you post a link to it (some file transfer utility)?

damian_kerr,

Thanks for sending your file.
Does Tekla Structures have a 2D and 3D mode? That file appears to be for a 2D mode. Is that where you are making your changes?

If there is an option to enable the 3D mouse in Tekla, then you will need to enable that (even though you only have a CadMouse).

Thanks for the reply @jwick,

Yes, Tekla has 2D & 3D environments and the config file was always created/modified in the 3D environment. I ended up installing the 3D Connexion device extension for Tekla and created the config file from within the extension which resolved the problem.

BoiledHairDryer,

A Hyperworks cfg file has been added to the next release (currently in QA).

I've sent an email to you with that file to test.
If your email address is accurate, you should get it shortly.

Let me know if this fixes the problem.
