Spaceball 5000 win 10 - fusion 360

Post by leeko »

Hi all,

I dug up my old spaceball 5000 USB and installed the 3.7.22 drivers on my laptop, running win 10 64 bit. The installation goes fine, and the spaceball appears to work in the sample applications (Jet, Cube, etc). But, I don't seem to be able to get it to do anything within fusion 360. Is there another step I need to do, before it can be recognized within another application? The driver is running when I've been trying. I've tried reinstalling the driver in windows 7 and windows xp compatibility modes, but no joy.

Thanks in advance,

Lee

If my guess is right, Fusion 360 has the latest 3Dconnexion 3DxWare SDK APIs integrated into its software code base. Spaceball 5000's driver v3.7.22 is not compatible with the latest 3DxWare SDK APIs. So I would suggest to invest on a new model, like the SpaceMouse Wireless or Pro.

Correct luping. 3.7.22 is extremely old. F360 uses software features developed recently.

That's disappointing, but understandable

Thanks

Applications based on SDK 4 -- such as Fusion 360 -- require v. 10.5.6 of 3DxWare 10 (released March 2018) or newer.

I've been using an old Space Mouse Plus USB (also 3.7.22) with Fusion for several years so I was upset to find that it stopped working recently.

The Autodesk Fusion 360 Facebook account posted yesterday about this new SDK change, so I replied that this broke my device.

Someone from Autodesk replied that they should have a new release next week to address this.

So hopefully good news coming on this soon.

Try installing the space pilot driver. I have the Spaceball 5000 that I use with NX12. It stop working with when we up graded from NX7 to NX9. I found that this driver worked even when we up graded to windows 10 and NX12.

It seems counter-intuitive, your employer has the budget to invest on the expensive Siemens NX software licence upgrade, a typical permanent NX CAD licence costs more than 10,000 USD, however your employer don't have the budge to invest on 3D navigation hardware upgrade...

Typo error, it's 'budget ', not 'budge'.
