Using the SpaceMouse with SolidWorks on a remote connection

Post by ajsSW »

When I was searching for a way to use my SpaceMouse from my Retina MacBook Pro to interact with SolidWorks on my CAD workstation, I couldn't find a recommendation that would work. So, I wanted to post my setup in case someone else is trying something similar.

The usual suggestion for using the SpaceMouse remotely with SolidWorks was to use HP RGS. Unfortunately, HP RGS does not come in a version for Mac. I then found that the desktop sharing software from NoMachine does USB forwarding and has versions for Mac, Windows and Linux. I did initially have a problem since I had upgraded to OS X 10.10.3, but the fix was simple.

The responsively is very good from home to work over a VPN. And I don't even disturb my wife watching Netflix in the living room. My home ISP connection speed is about 25Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.

Hope that this helps someone.
