Button mapping lost on every reboot (Spaceball on XP)

I'm running WinXP SP2 with SolidWorks 2007 SP2.1 and a Spaceball 4000 FLX with SW add-in 2.8.3.

Even though I configure (map) the buttons on the Spaceball, clicks OK and use my newly configured buttons, they're back to standard after every reboot. Sometimes the ABC-buttons have kept their configuration.

Any suggestions?
