Post by antonynealrobinson »

Hi,

I'm getting 3dxvirtuallcd unhandled exception error during startup of PC

Already looked through the other two posts detailing same error message.

Driver = 3DxWare64_v10-4-10_r2558
Win 7 Pro, 64 Bit.

Hi Ant,

the 3DxVirtualLCD Unhandled Exception error occurs when there is data corruption in the "user.config" file of 3DxVirtualLCD.exe.

To correct the problem, stop the driver then delete the folder [or folders] in the 3DxVirtualLCD folder that has the "user.config" files.
  • Start -> All Programs -> 3Dconnexion -> Driver -> Stop Driver
  • Delete the folder(s) named 3DxVirtualLCD.exe_Url_... located at: "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\3Dconnexion\"
Restart the driver. A new "user.config" file will automatically be created.

What is the fix to prevent the data corruption? This issue has been going on for years. Is it being addressed?

And here it is in July 2020, and this error still continues.

Hi SpectreGadget,

is the error message exactly the same? We are currently seeing a 3DxVirtualLCD Unhandled Exception error more than usual due to antivirus software blocking our modules. Which antivirus software do you have installed?

Create an exception for "C:\Program Files\3Dconnexion\3DxWare\3DxWinCore\3DxProfileServer.exe" in the antivirus. This should fix the issue.

Well, we have the exception in place for the antivirus and I am still getting the error. It actually worked ok a couple of times, but after rebooting today it is throwing the error consistently. I tried deleting the folder in the 3Dconnexion folder as shown and it didn't change. It is consistent at this point.

Hi DSundberg,

do you have the Citrix Client installed on your machine? We noticed that a module of the Citrix Client comes with a Dll that prevents that our 3DxProfileServer can allocate memory. The name of the DLL is epclient64.dll.

Are you using a Trend Micro product?

Yes, we are using the Trend Micro Antivirus product. They excepted the filename and the full path and filename.

As far as the Citrix client, it does not appear so. The search for the DLL came up negative.

Other than upgrading your antivirus software, there isn't much else we can suggest.

As far as the Citrix ICA client, the issue cannot be reproduced in the newest versions. Perhaps Trend Micro will soon follow.

Hello all,

I tried the folder deletion suggestion from 2017 with no luck and we aren't running Citrix. Can anyone tell if the following is indicative of the Trend issue or something else? Thanks in advance.

The trace is similar to the Trend Micro issue but, just like with Citrix, there are probably other products that integrate the problematic security software (all based on technology developed by a separate vendor).

If you're not using the latest driver, you will want to install that. We can't fix the problem with Trend Micro and there's no way of knowing what will happen with each new driver release.
