3D Mouse over Remote Control Workstation

Post by infinitempg »

Now more than ever more and more of us are working from home. We are using SolarWinds Remote Control and it works great except for one thing. Our 3Dconnexion SpaceNavigators. Some of us have our own 3Dconnexion devices at home (I have an old Space Pilot but still works great) and some folks took their Space Navigators home. We do design work with Autodesk Inventor 2020 (Windows 10 Pro) and it's a real tough job not having 3D mouse in hand. Regardless of us having our own at home or bringing our work unit home, all we have been able to get either to do, is zoom in and out, no roll, no pan, nothing else. Saw posts for Flexihub but no way work will drop $159/ea to get a mouse to work remote. Worked with the IT folks we tried VirtualHere USB Server and Client but that didn't help. Also tried USB Network Gate and that didn't work either.

Any help our suggestions would be greatly appreciated by many more than just us.

Thanks,
Scott

There is one free working solution that works for most people. If you have Windows 10 Pro at work and home you can use the Windows RDP with RemoteFX USB support. That will allow you to use a 3D mouse at home via remote desktop.

This post details the steps to make it work. https://www.3dconnexion.com/forum/viewt ... 728#p75728

This will not work on Win 10 Home, even if you enable the group policy editor.

Passed that along to the IT folks to see if that helps. We're not remoting in thru Windows Remote Desktop app, we're using SolarWinds so not sure how that applies but worth a shot. Hadn't had much if any help from SolarWinds or Autodesk.

Thanks!!!
