Old Spacepilot not working on Draftsight 2020

Post by Jelle »

I have an old Spacepilot wich works perfecty on Solidworks 2020, but if I want to use it with Draftsight 2020, nothing happens.
The buttons on the spacepilot works, but i can not pan or zoom.

This started when I started using Draftsight 2020, earlier version worked perfectly.

I am using 3DxWinCore Version 17.4.3

Did i miss some setting, or is it not supported anymore?
I have been searching the internet for a few month, but i couldn't find an anser.
Can someone help me?

Thank you in advance,
Jelle

Hello Jelle,

you can find a list of supported applications on our website. Draftsight is not (yet) listed.

In order to use it with 3Dconnexion devices, support for 3D devices would need to be added inside this software. Adding 3D device support to an application is determined by the application developer rather than by 3Dconnexion. We have an SDK [Development Kit] which any software developer can download at no cost and which allows the integration of 3D device support in proprietary software. Please see here for more details.

We advise our customers to contact the Customer Service of applications that are lacking support and request it be added in future versions of their software. The decision to include 3D support in their development schedule is often influenced by the level of customer interest.

I recommend that you contact Dassault Systèmes and express your wish to make clear that this is a demand from their customers.

Thank you for your response. The thing is, it used to work. And the help section of draftsight states that you can use a 3Dconnexion 3D mouse to navigate (see attachement).

Hello Jelle,

I am afraid you have to contact the producer of Draftsight. Dassault Systèmes implemented the support for the SpaceMouse. Their support should know.

Hello Jelle,

I just learned that Draftsight did some changes and with the latest driver (3DxWare 10.6.8 ) Draftsight 2020 should work. But you have an old SpacePilot. :( This device doesn't work with the latest driver.

I have same issue with another software (Cgtech Vericut), last release doesn't work with spacepilot due to this new 3D connexion SDK, Moreover i guess this device won't work anymore with ALL softwares in the future...

The only valid answer which has been given to me was to buy a brand new Space Mouse Enterprise. That really sucks.

Ok, the forum isn't letting me post a new thread ("You cannot make another post so soon after your last."), though I haven't posted in some time. So, I'll take a ride on this thread.

I cannot seem to get my SpaceMouse Compact to work in DraftSight 2018. It's been that way for a while. The reason I'm in the 2018 version is that I didn't get on board with the subscription model that became the exclusive licensing mode for DraftSight after 2018.

I'm using 3DxWare 10.8.10 in Windows 11.

I've deleted %appdata%\3Dconnexion\3DxWare\Cfg\DraftSight.xml, and see that C:\Program Files\3Dconnexion\3DxWare\3DxWinCore\Cfg\DraftSight.xml has <InheritsFromID>ID_Default_Cfg</InheritsFromID> and <ExecutableName>DraftSight.exe</ExecutableName>.

I know DraftSight isn't officially supported, though it has worked "ok" in the past, and there are obvious hooks for it in the default 3DxWare installation and in the DraftSight UI.

Is there a workaround available?
