Rhino: Target to follow camera

Post by pbrgle1 »

Hi,

There is an issue with the way Space Mouse handles the camera target in the Rhino perspective views.

With a normal mouse, the scroll to zoom, will only let you zoom to a certain distance from the target. The zoom speed will exponentially slow down and you then have to reset the target. A way around this issue is to press and hold Alt while scrolling. This moves the target together with the camera, and the scrolling speed is not slowed down because the camera to target distance remain unchanged. Here is a gif showing Alt+Right Click. Alt+Scroll works the same way.

When the Space Mouse is being used, the camera target stays fixed up to a certain point when the camera gets too close to the target. The target then gets reset automatically, so the user can continue zooming without resetting the target manually. But this makes the navigation feel very jumpy and is not as pleasant as with other 3D applications where the camera speed it always proportional to the force being applied to the mouse.

Is there a way around this issue, like the Alt+Zoom solution for the normal mouse?

Here is a gif which shows the camera slowing down as it approaches the target (and then speeding up once it gets reset automatically). The force with which I pressed the mouse is constant(ish).
