SpaceMouse Pro Wireless - Buttons not working when wireless

Post by Brian_Petersen »

Hi from Denmark. :)

I work at a hospital and we have just purchased a bundle of Spacemouse Pro and Pro Wireless for our digital pathology.
The Pro is working fine, but the Pro Wireless seems only work with a wire attached. And even then it behaves strange.

We are using Sectra IMS for our pathology department and the software is supposed to use the buttons as follows:
1: Zoom out in steps
2: Zoom in in steps
3: Last picture
4: Next picture

I have tried both with and without your software (3DxWare 10.7.0) - the results are shown below.

Without your software and with the cable in, it works just like a normal Pro with buttons:
1: Zoom out in steps
2: Zoom in in steps
3: Last picture
4: Next picture

Without your software and without the cable in, the wheel works (pan + zoom) - but no buttons work at all.

With your software and with the cable in, the buttons have double functions:
1: Zoom out in steps and open keypad
2: Zoom in in steps and open the explorer
3: Last picture and open Internet Explorer
4: Next picture and copy.
Also the mouse pan seems to only work horisontally and not vertical.
When I pan up, the mouse also zooms in and zooms oute if I pan down.
This only happens when I have Sectra selected (main window).

With your software and without the cable, the buttons have only your functions:
1: Keypad
2: Explorer
3: Internet Explorer
4: Copy

I have attached pictures showing the settings of the mouse.

Is there any setting I could try to get the wireless mouse to work perhaps even with your software installed?

Best regards

If the application "works" without our software running, it must not be using our API. There are several others available from Microsoft.
Finding out which it is using would allow us to give you a cfg file that would eliminate the double actions you are seeing.

Either way, it sounds like they may not be reading the button events from the Universal Receiver correctly. It is a bit more complicated with the wireless receiver. Our API hides all those hardware details from the application.

It works without the software, but then it needs to be wired. Takes some of the usability away though. :)

I did suspect I need a configuration file for our application, but I am baffled by the fact, that the Pro (wired) works out of the box.

I attached the notification from the mouse software and the xml I think is used by Sectra to communicate with the mouse (had to make them both pictures, as I can't add txt or xml).

What do you recommend I do as a next step?

This shows the driver doesn't recognize the app as a 3D mouse-supported app. Probably rolling the cap (like a motorcycle throttle) sends MouseWheel events to the app. This will do whatever a 2D mouse mousewheel does.

Try contacting Sectra tech support to ask them what API they use to support the 3D mouse. They are not going to know, but if they are helpful they can ask development and get back to you. If not, we can do some experimentation to try to find out.

You can start by telling them that the SpaceMouse Pro Wireless buttons don't work. That's a bug.

Thank you.

I will try Sectras support and get back here, if they need additional help.
