3dsmax 2022 viewport jerky and locked to 60fps

Post by macspeedee »

I have an issue which I believe may be related to my Spacepilot pro and 3dsmax 2022. Before I start I have today installed the latest drivers.

When in perspective mode and using the 3d mouse the viewport moves in a jerky manner. Meshes seem to move independently from each other and there are jerks and sometimes ghosting. I notice that FPS is locked to 60fps. If I use the orbit mode in max the framerate increases and everything is smooth so this issue only occurs when using the 3dmouse. Is there anything I can do to stop this?

I have noticed that with viewport rendering level set to DX the movement is smoother but still locked to 60fps. On basic or advanced I get the issue.

My team and I also confirm the display problems in the new 3dsmax versions.

Thanks for starting the topic Macspeedee

is this issue known by the developers and will be fixed in the next driver version?
in 3dsmax 2020 everything is ok, seems that the problem came with max 2021 when autodesk changed/updated the viewport...

I have this problem using Max2017, and if my memory is correct this isn't a new problem.
Space Nav 10.7.2.3314
There is a serious lag of the wireframe rendering (Edged Faces) when moving the with the SpaceNav. Turn OFF wireframe overdraw (Edged Faces) and the redraw, FPS returns to normal.
Wireframe mode only doesn't have this problem although the FPS is much slower. (30%)

I personally solved the problem by deactivating the check on "Improve Quality Progressively".
Which can be found by clicking on "+" and then "Configure viewports...".

This improves the redraw slightly, in that you don't have a lagging wireframe version of the model trying to catch up with the shaded version.
But it is still a 10x slower preview that just using ALT and middle mouse.
@3Dconnexion - what are you doing to make it worse than the inbuild mouse navigation? I know 3dsMax is a bag of sellotape and broken bones but you could just be AS GOOD as the default navigation, otherwise WHAT IS YOUR USP?
Because I'm just...ah feck it! I'll just use the bloody mouse...Useless piece of crap that hasn't been fixed for 5yr+, and it doesn't seem newer versions of Max are getting any better interrogation.
(and they wonder why people rant on the forum!)
