Wireless security and mousejacking

Post by jn5 »

Several years ago, a security vulnerability was published demonstrating the ability to completely take over a user’s PC by sending input commands to USB wireless receivers for mice and keyboards. Dubbed the “MouseJack” attack, many devices including those from Logitech, Lenovo, Huion, etc. have been patched. I have not seen documentation indicating whether 3D Connexion devices share this vulnerability. Is the wireless connection encrypted as it is with the aforementioned receivers, or is communication between the input device and dongle decodable?

Currently, I’m disconnecting the wireless dongle when it’s not in use, but this seems like a half measure. It would be nice to know whether this serious vulnerability is something to worry about or not.

Hi jn5,

The communication is not encrypted for the universal receiver and wireless connectivity.
Its a direct input communication from/to receiver and device while having the driver installed for establishing this communication.
