Unreal Engine 5 support

Post by Alakelele »

Hello all, first thank you to the 3dconnexion team, you have made all of our lives a little better !

I tried my Space Mouse with Unreal Engine 4, works great, do you have any idea when it will be ready for Unreal Engine 5, doesn't seem to work for now (10.8.5)

Thanks

Currently UE 5 is in 'Preview' development phase, not a stable production release.

Gotcha, so you will wait for the first stable version, no worries, we'll wait

Did you try copying the plug-in manually? See the instructions in the "readme" file in the installation directory (normally C:\Program Files\3Dconnexion\3DxWare\3DxUnreal").

I tried copying the files from the "C:\Program Files\3Dconnexion\3DxWare\3DxUnreal\Plugins\5.0EA" folder to my Unreal Engine Preview 1 folder. I received the following message "Plugin 'TDxUnrealEditor' failed to load because module 'TDxUnrealEditor' could not be loaded. There may be an operating system error or the module may not be properly set up."

I suspect it didn't work because the latest driver from 3dconnexion is for the Earley access version of UE5 and not the Preview 1 version of UE5.

When will a UE5 Preview version be available?

This could very well be, yes.
When will a UE5 Preview version be available?
It's planned for the 10.8.7 release, expected end of March or early April (exact schedule to be determined).

It's here!

When will it work? Can I use it to pilot actors?

Can you tell us a bit more about this? Plugin 1.1.3 does support UE 5.0 but you will need the official release: preview and early access (EA) builds won't work.

We just used UE 5.0.1 to load an old "game" project and all seems well.

Please generate a UE 4.27 "game" project and then open it in UE 5.0.1. If that works, then there's something going on with the project that you're working on UE 5.0.

I can confirm that it doesn't work in either versions: 4.27.2 and 5.0.1

Btw, I have 2 mouses: spacenavigator and space wireless. Neither of them works.

And on the more personal note, if it is true (because it is very confusing on the website) that the software support of spacenavigator will be limited (in order to make us buy more), I think it's bloody shameless for 140€ joystick. I thought spacenavigator didn't work because the software support has stopped. I really hope it is not true...

So I checked on this as I wanted to use the SpaceNavigator to create some camera tracks and I found out roughly where the fault is. If I create a project from the 'Game' blank template in 5.0.1 the mouse works, but if I create one from the 'Film' blank template it does not. I'm going to assume the nDisplay and Virtual Production Utility plugins are conflicting somehow. Tried disabling them but the project broke.

The plugin does not work in "Film, Television, ..." projects. See here.

Edit: the plugin now supports "Film, Television, ..." projects. More information here.

I have an old Space Explorer that works great on older versions of the 3D connexion software but last I checked newer versions didn't support it.
First I have to say this is very annoying planned obsolescence and in itself is pretty ridiculous. But now I am wondering can I upgrade to 10.8.7.3448 so I can use it in UE5? Or does 3Dconnexion really expect me to buy a new spacemouse just so I can run the new version of software that will work with UE5?
