Is it possible to use the driver RBC9 wrote for the SpaceNavigator to bind keys for use by the Second Life windows client? Can anyone verify/confirm this works ok?

Ok so there is this great invention called the Space Navigator

And there is this great place called Second Life

The two make perfect sense

only snag is even if you download and install the RBC9-SpaceNav .exe and driver from this site - very goo it is too

there remains the problem of configuring the RBC9 CONFIGURATION PANEL

and then opening up the Second Life FLYCAM - CTRL+ALT+D - its under client

then wow there it is the panel of death - a load of settings that is the SpaceNav equivilent to getting 6 numbers right on the National Lottery

sure some people do get it right - this guy seems to have managed it - but wont answer andy requests for info it seems
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfUAyGR5nNs

so i think Space Nav needs to get onboard with SL google is great sure but SL is massive and a coporate monster for selling your devices - you would be stupid not to get this working as well as that video out of the box

that said is there anyone here who can post step by step screenshots inc simplified explanation critical numbers and settings for both the RBC9 control panel and the Flycam settings in SL

THANKS GUYS

As quite a few people now know, I have settings for the RBC9 driver and Second Life which work great.

As soon as I get home, I will post instructions and screenshots :)

I promise the info is on its way... hang in there!

WOW - I OWE YOU BIG TIME

You are a freakin genius

you have turned around what in effect was a glorified piece of junk paperweight - the spacenavigator LOL

into a true 3D tool for SECOND LIFE

I dont know HOW YOU FIGURED THIS OUT

But 3DCONNEXION AND SECONDLIFE OWE you a true debt of gratitude

- HEY MODS give this guy a job with your firm developing this for SL LOL

thanks again thats all i can say

and i am sure millions in the future will all be using YOUR settings

=) i am off to go play and learn to handle this sweet 3D MOUSE world :)

and its all down to you

Umm... lots of trial and error ;)

By the way... something I've found very very useful: fix the thing to the desk. I use blu-tak. Then you can throw your camera around in SL without ending up with a lap full of SpaceNavigator.

I'm finding this *very* useful for building... move the cam with your left hand, edit with your right.

blue tack eh? - Homer Simpson Voice LOL

I was holding it with the left hand to really push on it this thing needs a screw thread in the bottom so it could be bolted down SPACENAV PEOPLE A TRIPOD THREAD WOULD DO - HOW MUCH WOULD THAT COST

still it works and i could NEVER have done this without your help - NUFF SAID GROVEL, GROVEL AND thanks to the RBC9 designer TOO :)

i struggle to keep pace with fast moving objects but i will survive

Tene,

I have a space navigator and went here: http://teneverse.blogspot.com/2007/07/blog-post.html to see your settings. However, it's not clear to me what I need to do to get it to work with SL. I thought I had to map all of the SN movements with the various keystrokes SL uses via the RBC9 config. It appears that doing so via the RBC9 driver will work but will take a bunch of time. Is this what you did or did you do something else?

Thanks,

Peter

Just wanted to add that the current driver works just fine with Second Life - no need for a special driver. Also, note that reasonable settings for the official driver differ from the settings for the RBC9 driver. See the flycam page on the SL Wiki for details.
