Mouse design suggestion

Post by Flaming_Crossbow »

Hello,

I work at a a well known medical technology manufacturer with multiple huge engineering offices, we just had a trail with a the 3d connexion cadmouse and most engineers were disappointed in the functionality.

One of our company philosophies is "help each other be great". So here comes the feedback i came to from discussing our experience with mouses.

Nearly all coworkers use Logitech or other brand gaming/MMO mouses for the following reasons:
scroll wheel with free spinning option. Superior function. Must have. some mouses can even switch between racket and free spin. (The scroll wheel top and side press functionality is barely used by anyone.)
2 index finger side buttons for copy and paste or zoom in/out.like the G602 and G604 have.
4 high thumb buttons like the G402 has. (6 like in the G602 has is too much) Forward, backward and 2 customisable.
1 thumb tip button like the G402/G502 have. for zoom to home view.
1 lower Thumb button like the Roccat Kone Aimo mouse has. for the ESC button.
Bluetooth connectivity! most new light engineering laptops only have bluetooth and USB-C.

Optional, nice to haves:
Pinky button
Thumb side scroll wheel like the Logitech MX series have.
non rubbery surfaces. They wear too fast.
large slide patches on the underside like MX series.
sensor that also works on most surfaces including real wood desk.

Most engineers at our office use a 10-19 button mouse but no more than 15 are actually used. We also concluded that it is too difficult to make distinction between thumb buttons when there are too many packed together like the are on mouses like on a Logitech G600.
Nobody used the multiple DPI settings. Most didn't even know they could choose.

Please keep these features in mind for a single mouse when designing an engineering and creativity mouse.
