Post by Sidion »

Am I missing a step or something? It works with the install demo but when I try and nav through Maya with it, nothing happens. Help?

Close out of Maya and all running appications.
Go to add/remove programs
Choose3dconnexion
Select change
Click on repair or you can choose custom.
Let it reinstall the driver and plugins.

Next before opening Maya make sure the 3dconnexcion driver is running.
Open the 3dcontrol panel this will guarentee the driver started.
Close the panel and launch Maya.

Maya 2008 - no functionality

Post by Rodney_g »

Hi Fred,

I followed your suggestions verbatim, and no luck.
I get the panel inside of Maya, and can make changes, but no luck getting either the scene or the camera moving.
Any suggestions?

release 3.5.6
driver ver 6.5.5
firmware 3.18
SpaceNavigator

Running Maya 2008 on Vista x64
Not locking Maya up or anything, and it still works fine in poser, so I know the device is working... just not in Maya.

This thing rocks once you get the bugs worked out and it interfaces properly.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Hi. I am having the same problem with my SpaceNavigator running Windows XP 32-bit. The unit works fine with Google Earth but no response in Maya 2008.

Also, when I click the "calibrate" button nothing happens.

Please help! I bought it to use with Maya!

release 3.6.7
driver 6.6.1
firmware 4.04

Thanks.

Rodney,
I would use the latest available driver (today this is version 3.6.7).

In which path do you have Maya installed? I would guess the files were not copied correctly to the "scripts-startup"-directory of Maya.

Are MagellanStartup.mel, C3DxButtonEditor.mel, C3DxControlPanel.mel, C3DxMapping.mel and userSetup.mel available under "scripts-startup"?

Here is the manual installation:
* Manual Installation
Copy the Melscripts to the "scripts\startup" sub-directory of Maya,
and the bitmap files to the Maya "icons" directory.
Copy 3DxMaya.mll to "bin\plug-ins"
Copy the 3DxHelp directory to "docs\ext"

Are you sure that Maya was selected during install? Do you have a "3Dconnexion Plug-In for Maya 2008" subfolder under "Start-Programs-3DConnexion"?

Hi,

I did a manual install, and yes the driver was present and running... I have the config tools & buttons inside the Maya shelf... it's not that it isn't seeing that the device is there, it's just not syncing with the nav controls.

I've tried using the update tool in the driver, but no luck... identifies that there's a newer version, says it's updating, but when it finishes, and I check help>About, nothing is changed.

I'm manually trying to apply the updated driver... I'll let you know what happens.

Thanks!

Hi Fred,

The driver update does it... I had assumed the update tool was working, but apparently not.

The new install worked like a charm, no manual install required.

Thanks!
