Linux SpaceMouse as normal 2D mouse

I do not have/use any 3D software yet, but want to test SpaceMouse as normal 2D mouse on Linux.

Can you advise how would that be possible?

For those interested there is SpaceMouse to TrackPoint project:

Python script that can do it when executed as root.
