3d Space Mouse not working with Safari or Adobe Reader

Post by Srinivas »

Namaste,

Trust you are all doing well.

I have my 3d Space mouse installed on Macbook pro Ventura version 10.8.4 (3716). It's working fine in Archicad software but I wanted to zoom, scroll pages in Adobe Acrobat pro or Safari. I am not able to do it, do I need to download any extensions or is it something not configured correctly.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Can you use the wheel of your (regular) mouse or CADMouse to scroll in Web apps such as Adobe or Safari on macOS?

Scrolling in apps such as Safari or Adobe Acrobat Reader on macOS isn't supported with the SpaceMouse with 3DxWare version 10.8.4.

Yes, I am able to scroll the webpages in Safari, Adobe with my CAD Mouse wheel, just that I want to do it with Space Mouse to reduce strain.

It will work as a 2D mouse if 3DxWare 10 for MacOS is not installed and the SpaceMouse is connected. However, as soon as the driver is installed, it will no longer work as a 2D mouse for Safari and Adobe Reader. Obviously, much of the functionality will not be available without the 3DxWare software. How do I get old versions to test if they will work for what I need? I can see the list of the old versions of 3DxWare software, but they are not clickable.

Thanks, this is good to know! I was confused because Safari and Acrobat Reader are both listed in the pref pane of 10.8.4

Do you know if this kind of simple scroll support will be added at some point? Or is it supported in an earlier version of 3DxWare? I am new to these products so still learning the history etc.

I am using an M1 mac running Sonoma. Thanks for the infos! :D

Also curious if it is a macOS issue or if there is something I can do to help get it working... I know my way around xml files and don't mind learning it

Most apps that are listed in 3DxWare latest insider build (10.8.5 r3793) configure list are still not working for me on Sonoma w/ M1 Mac.

I do have the spacemouse working in Cinema 4D and another app (Houdini 20.5) so the system is obviously seeing my spacemouse, but all other apps seem unconfigurable / unresponsive. Any way to fix this?

I've gotten wired to use the space mouse naturally for zooming and moving the view of the model around in CAD and I often find myself trying to use that hand on the space mouse to do it in other apps as well. I'd really love for this to work by default

Glad to hear your 3D Space Mouse is working well in Archicad! For zooming and scrolling in Adobe Acrobat Pro or Safari, the functionality may not be natively supported. You can try downloading and installing the latest drivers or extensions from the manufacturer's website, such as the 3Dconnexion software, which may include additional settings for application-specific control. Check if there's an option in the driver settings to map zoom/scroll functions for non-3D applications. Hope this helps!

About a week ago, I reached out to support over this issue- also mentioning scroll support in native macOS apps like Finder. They reached out to the Product Team and got back to me a few days later.

The support person who helped me (who was very friendly might I add!) said something like "if enough people ask for a feature, the Product Team does investigate the feasibility of it". They also noted that compatibility system-wide with macOS and other 2D apps is something they hope to provide in the future!

So, I definitely encourage as many other people to chime in here if they think it would be useful as well. It sounds like they are definitely paying attention, which is great! :D

I full heartedly agree w/ this! That's almost verbatim what I said in my initial ticket to support.

I am seconding this, the 3DConnexion inputs should offer some kind of interface for any app that responds to a pointer, so people can use it as a primary input device and not simply for 3D work. I've completely reconfigured my workspace for ergonomics and it's preferable if the pointing devices that treat one's wrist the best worked on more applications...

Yes, I totally agree. I would be using this thing all the time in Finder and browsing the web!

I would also support the use of 3d space mouse across applications. The increased use of 'canvas' style environments like Miro, Mural, AutoGPT, etc would benefit from 3d mouse navigation. As a user who started life as an engineer and used a 3d mouse for design, a 3d mouse in these canvas style environments would certainly accelerate my work.
