SpaceMouse Wireless Bluetooth Edition - Google Chrome - Mac

Post by R_Edward17 »

Hello,

I'm a pathologist and am trying to use a SpaceMouse Wireless Bluetooth Edition to navigate a digital slide on a webpage in Google Chrome. My goal is to program axes (right, left, up, down) to their respective arrow keys. I would like spin clockwise and spin counterclockwise to function as the scroll function of a regular mouse. I've tried mapping this in the settings after installing the most current driver for macOS 10.8.5 (3798), but nothing seems to work. When I enter the webpage in Google Chrome, any direction I toggle the SpaceMouse only registers as zooming in (not sure if it's clicking or scrolling - these would both result in zooming in on the webpage).

I'm using a 16" 2021 Macbook Pro with the M1 Max, 32 GB RAM, and running the most up-to-date macOS (Sonoma 14.6.1). I've tried using the SpaceMouse with the provided receiver and directly plugged into the computer (with no receiver), same issues either way. I'm happy to provide more information as needed.

Thank you for any assistance.

Hey,
If you want to fix that SpaceMouse mapping issue in Google Chrome, update to the latest driver for macOS Sonoma from 3Dconnexion and use the control panel to assign arrow keys and scroll functions. If problems persist, try third-party software like Karabiner-Elements for more precise remapping, and reset SpaceMouse settings if needed.

Hello MikeTaku,

Is the control panel separate from the "System Settings" in Mac? Also, from what I can tell, I am currently using the latest driver for macOS. I greatly appreciate the tip for trying a third-party software instead. I'll be doing that next and will try to follow-up with the results.

I had a similar issue with mine on a Mac. You might want to try using a third-party tool like USB Overdrive or SteerMouse to get better control over the button mapping. Also, check Chrome’s settings to make sure it’s not auto-zooming when it detects scrolling input. If that doesn’t work, try another browser like Safari or Firefox sometimes Chrome just doesn’t play well with certain devices.

Have you tried testing the SpaceMouse with other applications outside of Google Chrome to see if the issue persists, or is it specific to the webpage navigation in Chrome?
