I recently purchased an SMW 3DX-700115 to use as a controller for a robotic arm. My computer is running Ubuntu, and I downloaded Linux driver version 1.8.0 from 3Dconnexion.
Unfortunately, I ran into an error during the installation process. When starting the 3DxWare service, I received the following message:
/etc/3DxWare/daemon/3dxsrv -d usb
[2025-11-26 10:38:17] Error: 3dxsrv.c :: startupCommandLine(), authGetUser(), failed to get user
I'm not sure what is causing the driver to fail to start or whether this is related to Ubuntu's configuration.
Has anyone experienced a similar issue with the SMW 3DX-700115 on Linux? I would really appreciate any suggestions or troubleshooting steps.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Unable to Install Linux Driver for SMW 3DX-700115
Root privileges are required for installation and driver operation.
Please save the file 3dxware-linux-v1-8-0.x86_64.tar.gz into the /tmp directory.
You will have to extract the file and run the script.
