Can't get SpaceExplorer to work with Maya 8.5 PLE

I guess the first question would be if the 3dConnexion devices even work with the PLE version. If they do...

On startup, these errors come up:

If I go into the Plug-in Manager and try to load "3DxMaya.mll" manually, the following error pops up in a dialog:

The procedure entry point ??1MObject@@QAE@XZ could not be located in the dynamic link library FOUNDATION.dll.

I assume it's looking at the foundation.dll that is located here:

C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya 8.5 Personal Learning Edition\bin

The 3DxMaya.mll plugin is located here:

C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya 8.5 Personal Learning Edition\bin\plug-ins

Any thoughts on why this is happening? Has anyone encountered a simlar problem?
