Spaceball 5000 Serial versus Spaceball 5000 USB

Post by iBrews »

Hi everyone,

I just purchased a Spaceball 5000 to use in 3ds Max 2009, but it seems to be having compatibility problems. In fact, Maya 2008, Sketchup 6, and Photoshop CS3 don't work either. Bonzai3D and Google Earth work fine.

I noticed on the downloads page that Spaceball 5000 Serial only gives you version 2.8.2 of the 3dxSoftware while the Spaceball 5000 USB gives you the latest version (3.7.12). Because the Serial and USB look absolutely identical except for their connectors, I thought I might be able to use the latest software, which explicitly states compatibility with the aforementioned nonworking programs. However, if I install that software, my Spaceball doesn't read at ALL.

Does anyone know a way to get the Spaceball 5000 Serial to work in 3ds Max 2009, or maybe trick the computer into using the software/drivers for the Spaceball 5000 USB? Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks!

Never mind! I just found out that if you install the earlier drivers, but the newer software, everything works! Hooray.
