Suggestion / Request - Annoyance in Script Editor (Maya )

Post by alecks »

Hello!

I just received my Space Navigator and hooked it to my macpro; works like a charm! The maya 6/7 scripts work beautifully with 8.5 and I'm very happy with the product.

I used to (still do) own the spacemouse500usb but have switched to Macs and was forced to 'upgrade'.

Anyway, my issue is with the following. While using the Navigator, it floods the script editor with it's commands:
MagellanMotionCallback 0 0 0 0 0.382812 0;
MagellanMotionCallback 0 0 0 0 0 0;
MagellanMotionCallback 0 0 0 0 0 0.25;
MagellanMotionCallback 0 0 0 0 0 0.25;
MagellanMotionCallback 0 0 0 0 0 0.375;
MagellanMotionCallback 0 0 0 0 0 0.507812;
MagellanMotionCallback 0 -0.380859 0 -0.382812 0 1.140625;
MagellanMotionCallback 0 -0.568359 0 -1.148438 -0.375 2.039062;
MagellanMotionCallback 0 -0.568359 0 -1.148438 -0.890625 2.296875;
MagellanMotionCallback 0 -0.855469 0 -0.765625 -0.117188 1.78125;
MagellanMotionCallback 0 -1.242188 0 -0.898438 0 1.140625;
MagellanMotionCallback 0 -0.761719 0 -0.515625 0 1.140625;
MagellanMotionCallback 0 0 -0.761719 -0.382812 0 1.015625;
MagellanMotionCallback 0 0 0 0 0 0;
MagellanMotionCallback 0 0 0 0 0 0;
MagellanMotionCallback 0 0 0 0 0 0;
MagellanMotionCallback 0 0 0 0 0 0;
MagellanMotionCallback 0 0 0 0 0 0;
MagellanMotionCallback 0.380859 0 0 0 0 0;
MagellanMotionCallback 0.568359 0 0 0 0 0;
MagellanMotionCallback 0.855469 0 0 0 0 0;
MagellanMotionCallback 0.855469 0 0 0 0 0;
MagellanMotionCallback 0.380859 0 0 0 0 0;
MagellanMotionCallback 0.0878906 0 0 0 0 0;
MagellanMotionCallback 0 0 0 0 0 0;
MagellanMotionCallback 0 0 0 0 0 0;
etc...

Can you please disable this in your next release? Of if you or anyone else on this board knows how, can I make some change to the scripts that will disable this output?

It really affects the script editor's usefullness when you have to spend so much time tracking down the maya commands lost between the Magellan's flood.

It should be possible as you guys did it for the windows version! That too did this at one point, until it was fixed in a later release!

please let me know if there's any hope!

Thanks very much!
Alex

EDIT: Just now I also noticed that if you leave the script editor open while using the Navigator, the translations get so choppy it's unusable!! Closing the script editor returns functionallity.

Some issues

Post by stuffy »

First off - Thank You! for getting the driver to OS X. I have been waiting this for a long time.

For some reason the startup is not automatic for the SpacePilot and Maya8.5 on a C2D machine. Now I know that this isn't exactly the hardware/software mentioned on the website. So I tried to start the device up manually and got the error message.

MagellanStartup;
// Error: Object not found: MayaWindow|mayaMainWindowForm|formLayout2|formLayout14|formLayout15|formLayout49|ShelfLayout| //

I turned on the shelfes and the startup works like a charm.

MagellanStartup;
// Warning: Move Camera //
// Warning: Rotate around center of the scene/object! //
// Warning: Fly mode on! //

Another thing I noticed - In the system preferences I have to set the zoom direction to green (up and down) to get what I want (Blue - back and forth)

alecks,

Unfortunately the messages displayed on the script console is not under our control. We will request this change from Autodesk. You may want to bring this to their attention too.

stuffy,

You are right about the zoom direction being reversed. That will be fixed for the release.

We'll look into the shelf error and see if that can be improved.

How did you remove it from the Windows version? I forget now, but doesn't the windows version have an actual Maya plugin, instead of MEL scripts?

I know it's possible, because my windows box with SpaceMouse 500 does not create this flood. (Note: It did when I first got it, but after some releases it was resolved)

The Windows version uses a plugin as you've mentioned. We'll review that as a possible solution.
