Maya 2011 plugin moving the cursor not the 3d scene !

Post by el.mustafa »

Hi everyone

I've installed the space navigator driver and Maya 2011 drivers on Red Hat Enterprise 6.
No errors reported on installation though xcube will not start (missing libXm.3.so shared libraries, some kind of old open motif 3 subset)

The Maya plugin loads but I can't navigate the scene. The cursor is being moved all around but not the objects or the camera as in my Mac version.

Any suggestions?

Hi El,

can you see the driver running? It might be that the HID system driver grabs the 3D mouse, but as soon as you start the 3DxWare daemon (/etc/3DxWare/daemon/3dxsrv) the 3D mouse should not move anymore the cursor.

Cheer uludwig

I've relied on the fact that the daemon is set to start at the innittab
The process seems to start and registers as such at the system monitor

However it's only when I start the daemon manually in a command line as root that
it actually works!

Not sure why
Many thanks fo the tip

Hello El,

could you please post the complete output of the command
  • ls -l /etc/3DxWare/daemon
Thanks!

Ok. Looks good so far.

Do you still have the entry in the /etc/inittab?
  • 3d:2345:respawn:/etc/3DxWare/daemon/3dxsrv -d usb </dev>/dev/null 2>&1
Please extend it with the options -E -debug -multiLogs:
  • 3d:2345:respawn:/etc/3DxWare/daemon/3dxsrv -d usb -debug -E -multiLogs </dev>/dev/null 2>&1
Log out and log in again. Then please check your folder /tmp for files 3DxWare*.log. Let me know if you see them and how many. Post the content of the last one.

Hi uludwig,

Gratefull for following this up.
Adding the options you recommended to the inittab did not generate any log files.

The cursor movement has stopped but the device will only start moving the camera when I start it manually. Apart from that it is working perfectly. To be honest if it wasn't going to be an obvious step that I missed in the installation or something similar that has a quick fix to it now I'm thinking Iought not to mind starting the device manually. As long as it works !

Take care
El
