Spacepilot Pro & Photoshop?

Post by zemlin »

Long time user of 3D devices in CAD - want to try it in Photoshop. I have a Spacepilot Pro and Photoshop CC. Twist changes the brush size, panning works although it's very jerky. Zoom doesn't work. Hotkeys are not being recognized either - the LCD doesn't change from the defaults (virtual numpad, media play/pause) but it appears that all the buttons are assigned in the 3DXware.

What am I missing?

Probably worth mentioning that I'm on W7x64, Quad core i5 760, 16 GB RAM, Samsung EVO SSD system disk, and GTX570 graphics card - dual 1920x1200 monitors.

Hello zemlin -

Your zoom function may already be assigned to the standard mouse scroll wheel - that keeps it from being available for your SpacePilot PRO.

Open Photoshop's Preferences - General section and un-check the 'Zoom with scroll wheel' option. Photoshop needs to be re-started for the change to take effect.

Check the profile name shown on the LCD - it should be the same as the name shown at the top of 3Dconnexion Properties and changes should be visible right away. When you select another command for Button #1 from the drop-down list you should see it replace 'Virtual Numpad' on the LCD.

The problem could be a corrupted profile. You can remove custom profiles from 3Dconnexion Properties - Options - Delete Saved Configurations. When Photoshop is restarted it should be back to defaults - no username appended to the profile name.

If there is still a problem, the clean install steps clear 3Dconnexion registry keys and custom settings.

That was the problem. The BETA driver seems to provide a little better motion than the production software, but not as smooth as I'm used to seeing in CAD software. I'll have to live with this a bit and see if it's worth using for photo editing in Photoshop.
