zooming on assemblies inside Solidworks...

I am having trouble zooming in on assemblies in Solidworks. This is a problem specifically with assemblies. With just "parts" I zoom in just fine... but with assemblies, it's like the center of the model is off to the right of the model or below it... so that zooming in makes the assembly "fly over my head" or "fly off to the right" as it zooms in.

It's like the center of the model is off to the edge.

Is there a setting that I am missing or is not working right when viewing assemblies of parts. Remember this does not happen with just parts... only assemblies of parts.

I am using SpaceNavigator with Solidworks 2007 SP4.0 and have updated the latest driver just this morning.

I also have "Keep In View" selected in the "Parts/Assembly" area of the properties area. Actually I have tried turning all the options there on and off with no success.

I have the video and the example files you have sent me.

How do you navigate around the object? I would suggest to turn on the "Dominant" menu point in the 3Dcontrol menu. So you will have a filter of the navigation movements.

I suppose you haven't set the rotation point in the middle of the picture (object) and that's why the zoom-in has a strange behaviour.

Please try to set the navigation center to the middle of your object (approximately) and try to navigate again. Let me know if you see any difference.

Setting the rotation point does not seem to effect the zooming in and out function (whether I turn it on or off).

Something interesting that I notice is that when I zoom out the assembly does this weird travel path from the center of the screen to the side and then back to the center as it becomes a "dot" way off in the distance.

When I zoom back in using the Navigator it take same path. This is much different for the straight direct path (staying in the center) that the assembly takes if I use the mouse wheel.

What is interesting is that if I use the "F" key to zoom back in to full view... the path that the assembly travels is different depending on whether I zoomed real far out using the Navigator or the mouse wheel.

You can see the "arched path" in the small video I sent you. I will try to create a better AVI file for you.

Again enabling and disable "center point rotation" seems to have no effect.

I couldn't reproduce the way your navigation works. Do you have any special settings you made which could influence the navigation?

Do you have the view set to perspective? What happens when you change it to orthogonal (or parallel) projection?

I was just about to email you "perspective"....

I was going through the PDF for solidworks and noticed that many of the function are noted as not working when "perspective" is on.

I opened up your latest forum message and see you got to it before me.

I think perhaps this might be the problem. I am going to turn off perspective for a while and see if it helps.
