I just got my spacemouse wireless and the only thing close to a control panel is the properties window, which looks like it tries and often fails to autodetect the application I have selected. A few times, when I wanted to change a setting, I'd focus the, say, Inventor window, and the properties dialog box would correctly recognize that I had Inventor selected, but then once I clicked the the properties window it's back to "No supposed application selected"

3Dconnexion control panel missing
I keep seeing references to a 3DConnextion control panel which looks like it would be really useful *if I had one*!

. That seems to be a less of a problem now, for some reason, but I could really use a place to add different software configurations and edit them without having to play this dance.

Re: 3Dconnexion control panel missing
There is helpfiles with information on how to create button mapping etc in the 3Dxware documetation?
"3Dconnexion Properties
After installing the 3Dconnexion software, you can access the 3Dconnexion Properties panel to configure your 3D Mouse. At the top of the panel you can see the active application. Any changes you make to 3D mouse settings are relevant to this application only.
You can access the 3Dconnexion Properties panel via the icon in your notification area (systray), 3D Mouse Home panel or the panel/menu button on your 3D Mouse (by default this is the left button on 2-button devices)."
Depending on the application some require an addin if its one we create when you click on the Left button it opens up the add-in and from there you will have to choose button configurations.
Addins overwrite the general 3Dconnexion properties.
Inventor is one such application.
Inventor uses the NAVBAR which controls the functionality of the devices motions.
When your Inventor is opened initially with the 3DxInventor add-in installed, the 3DMouse News window opens inside Inventor. The 3DMouse News window shows the pop-up menu that includes the 'Customize buttons' option. The pop-up menu is mapped to the "Menu" button on the Space Pilot PRO and Space Mouse Pro, the "Panel" button on Space Pilot and Space Explorer and the left button on the SpaceMouse Wireless and Space Navigator.
With an Inventor document open, press the button on your device to open the pop-up menu then choose 'Customize buttons' to open the 3DxInventor Button Editor.

Re: 3Dconnexion control panel missing
I see what you're talking about regarding the help file, but the properties window does not work as advertised, or maybe it's broken. When switching from Chrome to Fusion360, and opening the properties with the left button on the spacemouse, it says at the top, where it should say the active application, "Chrome"
However, Inventor appears to be working normally now, although I never saw a "3D mouse news" window.
Isn't there a way to have the spacemouse control custom programs through custom profiles? I see there's a topic board for profiles, but I don't know how to actually load one - can someone please point me in the direction of some instructions? If not, I guess I'll head over to the Fusion 360 forums and see if anyone over there can help.

Re: 3Dconnexion control panel missing
Hi Nickolai -
Perhaps I can clarify some of the names used :
3Dconnexion Control Panel - This was the original name in the 3DxSoftware drivers for the properties window. In the 3DxWare driver the application options and button mapping have been integrated into the '3Dconnexion Properties' window.
3DxSoftware driver | 3DxWare driver - The driver that came on the SpaceMouse Wireless CD was a 3DxSoftware driver. The current SpaceMouse Wireless is a 3DxWare driver. Released 3DxWare drivers are the graduated version of the 3DxWare drivers previously available for beta testing.
3DxWare Rel. 10.0.19 is the official driver for the SpaceMouse Wireless but it can recognize the other current 3Dconnexion devices.
If the SystemTray icon for 3Dconnexion is black and white, the driver is 3DxWare. The 3DxSoftware drivers had a purple and white icon.
3DMouse News - This window showed a popup menu in 3DxSoftware. Those options in the 3DxWare drivers are in 3Dconnexion Properties - Advanced.
'Add a profile' comes from the beta drivers. There were options in the profile editors for emulating input from keyboard , joystick or 2d mouse. Whether these options produce functional navigation depends on the application and how its internal navigation is implemented. The released 3DxWare driver does not have a profile editor in the GUI.
Emulated navigation remains experimental. For 6DOF navigation in production work, the application's developers need to allow 3d input inside their software code.
'No supported application selected' means that the application in focus does not accept 3d device input. The 3DxWare Rel. 10.0.19 driver adds navigation in web browsers and Microsoft Office applications. The 3DxSoftware drivers required an application or application add-in that accepted 3d device input.
Applications without pre-defined profiles that have support for 3d devices open with a default profile. You can view the active profile name by hovering your mouse over the 3Dconnexion icon in the SystemTray.

Re: 3Dconnexion control panel missing
Thanks Barbara, that helps a lot.
One of the problems with your approach however, is that even if a software does accept input from the 3D mouse, if there's no profile for it you display "No supported application selected." Fusion 360, for example, works just fine with the mouse, but you have no profiles for it, and therefore getting it to work was really challenging. I did, however, manage to create my own profiles for Fusion360, and have posted the files + instructions for their use here: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Get-Help- ... 4767#M3210

Re: 3Dconnexion control panel missing
I want to know how to manage to create my own profiles for Fusion360, I was many times without success
Re: 3Dconnexion control panel missing
Hi Sherell -
The Fusion360.xml profile from the post above is for the 3DxWare 10 for Windows driver. If you are instead using a 3DxSoftware driver, the profiles are in a different format - .scg files rather than .xml files. The 3DxWare driver has a black and white SystemTray icon and the 3DxSoftware driver has a purple and white SystemTray icon.
With the 3DxSoftware driver, applications that do not have their own profile use the 'Any Application' default profile. You can save a profile for an application like Fusion360 using Options - Save As in 3DConnexion Properties. When you use the application you can select your saved profile from the drop-down list at the top of the 3Dconnexion Properties window.

I am sooooo confused...
It looks like we want to do the same thing...
Customize the knob to send keystrokes to a particular app when turned...
I cant get my head around how to make a profile...where to put it...
I'd love there to be a GUI solution to this..
Any kind help would be amazing..
Thank..
Nick
