Problems with Space Navigator and 3ds max 9/2008

Post by phhmlw »

I am using the SN PE while I am in school and have been for more than a year now, and I love it! But I am having a couple big problems recenently.

I had to reinstall max 9 and 2008 recently due to a software issue, and upon reinstalling necessary drivers for the SpaceNavigator, the device will not work at all in Max9 and will only affect the positioning in the Top view port in 2008 no matter what view port is active, even when the top viewport is not active.

For max9 32-bit, I copied the files directly from the 3dconnexion install folder to the correct folders as specified in the .txt. file. I also try to start the maxscript manually but nothing at all makes it function. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both the max9 software and the drivers for the navigator.

For max 2008 32 bit, only the top viewport is affected by the navigator, even when another view port is active. I have tried to run script manually as well as uninstalling and reinstalling everything as I did with max9, but the problem persists.

The navigator itself works fine on my secondary computer and the same applications. And it worked fine on this computer before I had to reinstall the programs.

vista 64 bit, q6600 quad core, 8gigs ram... blah blah..

Please help!

Alright, for some reason it started functioning properly in Max 2008, but still nothing in Max 9. If anyone could help with that, it would be cool!

Hi phhmlw,

Do you see the 3DXSTD.dlu plug-in in the 3ds Max Plug-in manager? Is it loaded and in what path do you see it?
Can you load 3DxStadio.ms using MaxScript which should be located at

Code: Select all

C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 9\Scripts\Startup
? Any error-messages so long?

Yeah, I can load the driver manually in the folder path that you described, and I don't get any error messages at all. Yet, still no function from the navigator.
