Blender usability issue

Post by Philip »

Little disappointed after getting the spacenavigator working in blender.

The device doesn't feels natural in when moving around in blender:

Smart Speed: I suggest to implement an incremental speed over time, tilting the controller will start in small units increment into larger units over time.

Smart coordinates: The rotation axises doesn't seems to be relative to the view, spinning the controller should rotate the scene to the perspective to the viewer (the ability to switch between viewer axises and fixed x,y,z axises might also be a nice feature).

Rotation (rolling) doesn't work properly when the up/down zoom is enabled. Same for (left/right) tilting when the front/back zoom is enabled.
e.g: rotates very slowly.

When transforming an object (rotate, move, scale) the controller doesn't do anything usefull, I would suggest to implement transformation mode (e.g: scale, rotate, move with controller) and changing the view with the controller while manipulating.

Rotation issue in blender,
Howto reproduce on win xp service pack 2:
Set the navigator and dominant zoom direction to up down.

In blender:
Remove the default cude and add a irregular shape (e.g: suzanne) just to make this test apparent.

Goto top view and rotate (roll) the navigator, note that the view doesn't rotate over it's Z axis.

Same is true when the zoom mode is forward/backward then the view will not rotate over it's Y axis.
