Vista 64 vs space navigator.. issues?

Post by Gareee »

Any known issues with the space navigator's drivers and any vista 64 software? It was working fine with a new vista install, but somewhere in installing software, the spacce navigator software broke.

Un installing and re-installing doe not solve the issue.. the control panel and driver will not load, and the lights do not come on on the sn itself.

I saw something similar to this under xp32, and a rollback solved that issue, but I've been setting up the brand new vista install, and I don't want to have to reinstall everything again just for the space navigator.

Are there any security settings that could interfere, or any known incompatibilities?

Gareee,

Try this:
If you haven't saved the 3.5.6 driver to your computer:
Download the 3.5.6 driver and save it to your desktop.
Then

Make sure the Navigator is connected to the computer's usb port:
Not throough a hub, adapter, monitor or docking station.
Remove 3dconnexion from add/remove programs
Go to:
My computer C:\program files
Delete 3dconnexion.
Empty recycle bin.
Go to:
start/run and type regedit then click ok.
Click file/export and set it to save on the desktop.
Name the file registry1
Click save.
In the registry editor open hkey current user/software
Delete 3dconnexion
Open hkey local machine and do the same thing if 3dconnexion is in there.
Reboot the computer.
Install the driver you saved to the desktop.
Reboot the computer.

I had saved the driver locally.

Followed your steps, and the navigator is still dead. I even tried to run the instaler and then the control panle for it in admin mode, and that failed as well.
Could it possibly need a different usb connection on my system during install?

I'll install it on my other system here, to verify that the hardware hasn't failed, but I find that unlikely.

Haven't had a chance to test it on my other system, but it looks like all the plugins for programs installed fine, but the control panel and drivers didn't install. Very odd.

By default Vista does not allow programs to run with administrator rights. Solidworks must be run with administrator rights, which means any program that interfaces with it must also have the same privileges. This can be assigned by editing the properties for 3dxsrv.exe:

Can't seem to locate that file anywhere... where should it be located?

(Just uninstalled, and reinstalled again)

C:\Program Files\3Dconnexion\3Dconnexion 3DxSoftware\3DxWare

select the 3dxsrv.exe and right click.
click on the compatibility tab and choose
run as administrator

If I right click it, run as admin is ghosted out.

If I try to run it as administrator, it says it's already running.

Ialso tried loging on as admin, and running the installer, and that didn;t chang anything.

Try, unplugging the device.
Hold the 1,2 button down.
While holding the buttons down plug in the device.
Keep the buttons pressed for about 10-20 seconds.
See if windows finds new hardware, or if the lights light up.
If so start the driver.

FWIW, I didn't get a chance to try the disconnect thing you mentioned, but I did save all this info in case it dies again.

Thanks MUCH! I never realized how much I really like using it till I didn;t have it available again.

BTW, any news of a speedup to the image browser? Comparing it to the windows one, there's quite a slowdown when going from image to image.
