We are testing 2 spaces mouses in our desk (space explorer and space pilot). It works fine in CATIA (V5R16). But we have problems by using these exellent devices in Solidworks 2008:
- 1st : it is possible to invert vertical pan and zoom (in part and assembly design, not only in darwing mode)?
- 2nd : Rotations are maked arround the massic center of the part, that causes problems of sensitivity when we work zoomed on the edge of the part. It is possible to have a "screen centered" rotation, like CATIA ?
I think that the easyest way of response is by by-passing solidworks add-in and using the standard pilot. but can I do that ?
Thank for your response

Hi rwucher,
Sorry for the late reply.
Sorry for the late reply.
You can. With SolidWorks running, open the "3Dconnexion Control Panel (menu Start -> Programs -> 3Dconnexion -> 3Dconnexion 3DxWare) and change the "zoom direction".- 1st : it is possible to invert vertical pan and zoom (in part and assembly design, not only in darwing mode)?
By default, the rotation point in SolidWorks is the origin of the co-ordinate system. You can change is by using the command "Set Rotation Point" (first icon of the "3Dcontrol" toolbar). You should also reference the help doc ("question mark" icon found on the same toolbar).- 2nd : Rotations are maked arround the massic center of the part, that causes problems of sensitivity when we work zoomed on the edge of the part. Currently, the SW options are the co-ordinate system origin, a point selected by the user or the "centre-of-mass" (see the "Options" tab in the 3Dcontrol "Properties" dialogue).rwucher wrote:This is not really what we want : In CATIA, the rotation point is always in the center of the screen. we dont have to set it. this is not possible with SW add-in ?
We have an internal enhancement request (#4508) to develop an automatic -- more "inteligent" -- centre of rotation. As of today, this feature is not yet on our roadmap.
Note that in CATIA, the rotation point is either the origin or a point selected by the user (using the middle mouse button).
