Spaceball 4000flx on Windows 2000 sp4

Post by Glenn Griffiths »

as there is a driver download for Windows 2000 can I assume that the Spaceball 4000 flx should operate ok ?
I have downloaded the driver and the installation process begins but after i have selected language a message comes up stating that 'system need restarting before continuing'. Unfortunately thats as far as it gets ?! does not shut down on its own and no other message window comes up. tried rebooting manually but does not continue installation and controller is not recognised or listed anywhere ?
can you please advise
thanks
Glenn

You have a outdated, or corrupted Windows installer.
You should go and update your windows installer.

Work around, to get the driver installed is to unzip the 2.8.2 download file
Extract the files into a folder you can call 3dxware.
Open the folder select:
Components,
3dxware
choose 3DxWare.msi
let it install.
This will install the 3d Driver.

To install the additional plugins go back to Components and you can manually install the ones you need.

Winzip can extract our driver files into folders.

Make a folder on the desktop called 3D driver.
right click on the driver file and select extract to folder:
choose the 3D driver folder.
now you can open the folder and follow the previous steps.

still no joy

as I mentioned, the driver file that downloads is not a zip file but .exe.
When I right click on it there is not an option to 'extract files'.
Only options available are -
open (if i click on this, installation begins as previously)
scan for viruses
add to zip
send to
cut
copy
create shortcut
delete
rename
properties
am i doing something wrong ?

Download a copy of Winzip, or ask your IT person if they have it and can extract the files.

winzip

Post by Glenn Griffiths »

Fred
I already have winzip but as i've said, the downloaded file is not zipped it is solely an .exe file and thats why there is no option to unzip or extract files when i right click on it.
Our IT dept has been looking into this but has got no further than me (yet) - thats why I'm hoping you have the answer ?

thanks

Ive given you the solution multiple times.
I donot know what version of winzip your using i have version 9, ive also used previous versions. They all have the ability to extract the .exe file.

Did you try updating your windows install shield?

3DxSoftware checks to see if there are any pending installations. This is part of the MSI 3.1 requirement
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310335

Have your IT dept install the driver under administrator.
