MAYA 2008 Shelf Missing and unable to program Hotbox Button

Post by fishbrain »

Hi
I previously uninstalled the 3D connexion shelf when I was trying to get the controller to work with Maya 2008.
I have now installed the new drivers, but still cant configure the controller because the shelf is not there!
Does anyone have any idea how to do this?

Also- does anyone have any clue on how to set the buttons up to bring up the hotbox? If I try it just goes to all four views. The hotbox normally comes up if you keep your hand on the space bar, but the controller does not seem to recognise that its button is pressed down continuosly

If you can help I would really appreciate it
Thanks

Hi,

Open the 3DConnexion Control Panel, then select
"Configure -> Install Plug-Ins..."

Does this help?

Hi Robert,
thanks for the reply. I have just tried that, but unfortunately it does not work...

Is there any other suggestion you may have? I use the controller in my Inter Mac when its in PC mode, but I only have an old licence of Maya in PC mode, and really would like to use it in OSX.

Any help would be appreciated as I love using this controller to model with!

Thanks

Hi,

You can open the script editor and type:

Code: Select all

C3DxShelfTab_OnControlPanel;
When you execute this with a right-click the control panel should come up.
Also there should be a second 3Dconnexion-icon in the right-upper corner of Maya - this one is also missing?

It seems as something went wrong with your installation - especially with the shelf-tab as movement seems to work.

What you can try is the following (first close Maya):

A) Navigate to Library/Preferences/Autodesk/maya and rename 2008 to 2008.old

Or do this on a console:

Code: Select all

cd /Users/$LOGNAME/Library/Preferences/Autodesk/maya/
mv 2008 2008.old
B) Start and quit Maya

C) Reinstall the PlugIns by opening the 3DConnexion Control Panel in System Preferences and select "Configure - Install Plug-ins..."

D) Launch Maya and see if it works

Hi Robert,

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you- I have been too busy to take time out to try this.

I am just about to get to work on a long Maya project, o would love to get using this controller.

I tried your suggestions, and both do not work.

Is there anything else I can try?

thanks

Hi fishbrain,

How did you uninstall the 3Dx-shelf?

Hi there,
sorry for the gaps in my response- I am constantly traveling with work. But I would love to get the bottom of this and use this wicked controller so thanks for your help so far.

Ok- I couldnt get the controller to work properly, so I uninstalled the 3DConnexion shelf tab, by throwing it in the trash.

Whenever I try and reinstall the software the shelf tab nowhere to be found..

BTW- moving the controller does nothing, even though I tried to install the Maya plugins..

thanks

Hi,

Please rename /Users/Shared/Autodesk/maya to maya.bak and
then reinstall the Plug-ins. If this does not work we will have to perform a manual installation.

Many thanks Robert,

I can now move around the 3D space with the controller, but unfortunately there is still no shelf, and I can cant seem to assign the buttons to do anything.

Cheers for the continuing help!
