SpaceExplorer USB shuts off

Post by smitty97 »

Just today, I noticed my SpaceExplorer wasn't working. The blue LED was off. The task pane icon was still there. I tried to start the driver, it said it was already running. So I stopped it, then started it again and the blue LED's came on.

Then it shut off after a few seconds! 3dxserv.exe continues to run.

what's going on??

SpaceExplorer not being discovered by Operating System

Post by Bryan »

Dear smitty97,

If you experience this again, try this:

Unplug your SpaceExplorer and then replug SpaceExplorer directly to your computer while holding down buttons one and two on the SpaceExplorer. After this access the Jet Demo (Start, All Programs, 3Dconnexion, 3Dconnexion 3DxWare, Demos). See if this doesn't cause the operating system to discover our device. (You may also test for all your motions with the Jet Demo being open.)

Sincerely,
Bryan

Ok, I did the 1-2 button reconnect. Opened Jet demo, and the blue led came on and it works. As soon as I quit, the led shuts off. I had Solidworks open, so I turned off the 3Dcontrol add-in and the blue light came back on. Seems something is borked there. I'll try an uninstall/reinstall of the latest driver.

Still no good. Installed 3.7.12, light went off after the install program was done showing me how to use etc. Ran Jet demo, works, ran Google Earth, works, then got a message "An unhandled exception occurred in your 3DxWare diver session, would you like to save a diagnostic file?" which i have made available here: http://homepage.mac.com/tomsmith/3DxWare.dmp (626k)

The blue led remained on, but didnt work until i ran Jet demo. Light shuts off as soon as I pick 3Dcontrol add in in solidworks.

Thanks,
-Tom

Try deleting all your saved .scg files in %appdata%/3dconnexion/3dxware/profiles
Some corrupt scg files can crash the driver.
