I've been using a SpacePilot for a while now. I purchased it specifically for use in Maya but life got busy and delayed those plans. I've used it casually in a few other applications which support it and have come to love it.
But I have thus far been unable to figure out how or where to enable orthographic rotation. All camera tools (tumble etc.) are not locked, 3D lock is off, fly mode is on, and I can pan & dolly/zoom in an orthographic panel and have complete unconstrained motion in perspective panels.
I've scoured both these forums and the net in general (so I could/must have overlooked it somewhere) but I haven't had any luck finding a solution. I'd started to worry that it might be impossible to rotate in ortho but then realized that would be silly, like buying a car unable to turn while in second and third gear. So it must be something simple, I just wish I could find it so I could cease the endless alt+click mousing all the time. (which is the reason I got the thing to begin with, after all).
Thanks for any illumination on the matter.
Orbit/Rotate in Maya Orthogrphic Views

Open the help file under 3DConnexion plugin for Maya under all programs
This gives a list of what the toolbar commands are offered.
example
3DView Lock: This toggle option locks the 3Dconnexion controller to only interact in 3D views (perspective or camera). If the mouse focus is on an orthographic or non-view window, the controller will still pan, zoom and rotate the scene in a 3D view. This option is very useful if you are doing some editing work in orthographic view and simultaneously using the controller to pan, zoom and rotate in a perspective view for improved visualization. This can be done simultaneously.
Enable Object Movement: Selecting on this option now maps controller movement to actual object movement. The center of rotation and move scene/camera options from Camera/View Movement section aren’t utilized. However Disable Rolling toggle impacts object movement. This mode is useful for quick object placement when doing motion capture / animation work. For any modeling work, 3Dconnexion doesn’t recommend using object movement mode.
