Driver Version 10.5.0 Causes 3DS to fail to load

Post by thepant »

After installing the new drivers to use a space pilot pro with 3ds max on windows 10 64 bit 3DS Max is no longer able to be opened??? It flashes a quick spinner and then does nothing. Upon removal of the software it works fine. Any ideas as to why this is happening or how to fix?? Been waiting forever for these driver and still can't use the space pilot!!!!

Hi thepant,

which version os 3dsmax are you using?

I recommend the following process:
  • Uninstall all 3Dconnexion software.
  • Remove the existing settings as described here.
  • Reboot the machine.
  • Install 3DxWare 10.5.0 again.
  • Reboot the machine.
If this doesn't help please contact our Technical Support Team.

I'm a Max user. Just got a new SpaceMouse Enterprise delivered this morning (first time customer). Installed latest drivers. Same issue. After installing the software, no version of Max will run at all. I went through the instructions linked above (uninstalling 3d connexion, removing appdata folders in local/roaming, deleting 3d connexion registry key, restarting and installing 3d connexion software). This did not bring back the ability to launch any version of 3ds Max (2016, 2017 or 2018).

Also, after submitting a technical support request, I received two emails:
  • One automatic response saying Uta will be out of office for next few weeks
  • A second a bounce from your mail server back to Gmail saying it was filtered as Spam
Hi. This is the qmail-send program at mail.serverpilot.net.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

<[email protected]>:

...
Considering the email was through your support service web form, it seems odd it was bounced to me as spam.

Tech support asked me to send a log file (which I did) and then to uninstall the current driver and instead try driver 10.4.10. Unfortunately, that did not help. With the 3d connexion software installed, Max will not launch at all (it appears in task manager for a few seconds then disappears). Literally, the only way for me to run Max is to uninstall the 3d connexion software.

For the record, I run Max from a network license in case that might be relevant.

Also, I noticed from some docs online that show that 3ds Max would be listed in the Advanced Options. I never saw any advanced settings with labels for 3ds Max.

Did some digging, and discovered this:

I can keep the 3dconnexion software installed. However, to get Max to launch I had to delete this folder:

C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\3DxStudio.bundle

Now Max could launch. But SpaceMouse isn't working in Max.

My guess is that the plugin is messed up. So it's probably the GUP files, the icon or the PackageContents.xml.

And now I found a way to make it work.

I copied the relevant GUP file into the Plugins folder of the relevant version of Max.

So I copied :

C:\Program Files\3Dconnexion\3DxWare\3DxStudio64\Contents\win64\2018\3dxstd.gup

to:

C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2018\Plugins\3dxstd.gup

Now it works inside Max 2018.

So there must be something wrong with the way the plugin is packaged into the ApplicationPlugins folder or some file permission error that makes it not load from that location.

Well, excellent job. That did the trick. Really hard to believe that you would have to go thru these hoops to get this to work, doesn't anyone test this stuff out??
Thank you for the help.
