Problem: Could not open USB port or no supported device found

Post by li502301450 »

Hi,

I tried to connect the SpaceMouse Wireless in Ubuntu 18.04, but when I input "sudo /etc/3DxWare/daemon/3dxsrv -d usb" command, the terminal shows "Error: Could not open USB port or no supported device found! Exiting!".

When I input command "dmesg | grep usb", the log is following:
[ 1.914878] usb 2-4: new full-speed USB device number 4 using xhci_hcd
[ 2.072095] usb 2-4: New USB device found, idVendor=256f, idProduct=c652, bcdDevice= 1.02
[ 2.072098] usb 2-4: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0
[ 2.072100] usb 2-4: Product: 3Dconnexion Universal Receiver
[ 2.072101] usb 2-4: Manufacturer: 3Dconnexion

When I input command "lsusb", the 3d mouse is occupying usb 2-4:
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 256f:c652

Also, the log created by command "sudo /etc/3DxWare/daemon/3dxsrv -d usb -debug -E" shows:

[2022-04-02 14:12:04] Error: Could not open USB port or no supported device found! Exiting!

For this case, what shall I do to connect the SpaceMouse?

Hey,
I just bought a Spacemouse Compact and have the same problem.
After checking around, I discovered that my model wasn't supported on Linux.
I saw that the Spacemouse Pro was, and saw a wireless version second hand that I was planning to buy but I discovered that only the wired one has Linux support.
No idea why.
You can check that on this page:
https://3dconnexion.com/uk/supported-operating-systems/
I'm a bit disappointed by the Linux compatibility of those product.
I'm sad to have spend so much money for something that I can't use.

Unfortunately the SpaceMouse Wireless with the Universal Receiver and the SpaceMouse Compact are not supported by our Linux driver (which is from 2014 :( ). See here.

I highly recommend checking out the open-source drivers: https://github.com/FreeSpacenav/spacenavd. I have SpaceMouse compact, and the open-source drivers worked like a charm on my ubuntu 20 machine.
