3ds max and material editor

Hello everyone, new user here.

I got a space mouse pro (wireless) a couple of days ago, and so far it has been working perfectly.

Now today I had to do work on 3dsMax, more specifically I had to use the (slate) material editor, and noticed that the space mouse doesn't work while working on this window (if you move the mouse it will move the viewport even if you are currently on the material editor window).

same thing happens if you're on the UVW Map editor.

is there a way to solve this?
