Space navigator stopped working

My Space navigator has stopped working. I’ve tried restarting my computer, I’ve tried reinstalling the latest drivers, I’ve tried reinstalling older drivers, I’ve tried plugging it into different USB ports, I’ve tried installing it on another computer but nothing seems to work. Double clicking the control panel icon on my desktop does nothing and the icon no longer appears in the system tray although when I look at the system tray settings the icon is set as always shown. The space navigator itself doesn’t light up and pressing the buttons on it does nothing. I strongly suspect it is faulty.
