Robert,

Please use the "Customize"-function of SolidWorks, open the "Commands"-tab and move the "Sketch" function which is located under "Sketch" to your toolbar. After that you will find the "Sketch" command in our Button Mapping Editor (located under the category which has the same name as the toolbar on which you placed the command).
This command will work. Please see also my last post in this thread.
Hi Robert,
I've a similar issue. I can map sketch (Spacepilot using SW 2008) to a button but it does not work.

regards,
Pat.

Everytime I open Solidworks I've got to remap sketch to one of the buttons on my space pilot. I've even tried the following:-

How to map buttons in SolidWorks

Example: Mapping the "Line" command to a button

A) Open SolidWorks
B) Right-click on the toolbar and select "Customize"
C) Enable the "Macro" toolbar
D) Go to the "Commands"-tab
E) Choose the "Sketch" Category
F) Drag and drop the "Line"-command to the Macro-toolbar

It works fine but the mapping of the button needs to be set up everytime I leave Solidworks and come back to it :(

regards,
Pat.

Hi Pat,

Please verify that you have full access to the following registry-key:

Code: Select all

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\3Dconnexion\3Dconnexion Add-In for SolidWorks

Hi Robert,

Sorry. I don't know how to do that :(
But I did check the control panel properties & it gave me this:-

3D connexion for Solidworks
Version: 2. 11. 2
Date: Oct 17 2008

Pat.

It is strongly recommended that a backup of the registry be made. Instructions how to create a back-up and to restore the registry can be found on Microsoft's Knowledge Base article Q322756.

Under the 'Start' button and 'Run' type in 'regedit' and hit OK to bring up the Registry Editor. Then navigate to

Code: Select all

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\3Dconnexion\3Dconnexion Add-In for SolidWorks
Then right-click on "3Dconnexion Add-In for SolidWorks" and select "Properties". Verify that your user account has full access to this key and all sub-keys.

Try the following:
A) Exit SolidWorks
B) Go to

Code: Select all

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\3Dconnexion\3Dconnexion Add-In for SolidWorks\Options

C) Doubleclick "Banner" and change it's value from "1" to "0"

Then start SolidWorks - do you see the 3Dconnexion banner on start?

*UPDATE*
Are you sure that you are using the "3Dconnexion Button Mapping Panel for SolidWorks" and not the 3Dconnexion Control Panel?

Please open the helpfile which is located at

Code: Select all

C:\Program Files\3Dconnexion\3Dconnexion 3DxSoftware\3DxSolidWorks\SolidWorks Help.chm
In the "SpacePilot ButtonMapping Editor" category you will find a screenshot - does the Button Mapping Editor you use look like the one on the screenshot?

....let us try the following:

A) Open a part in SolidWorks
B) Map the Sketch function to button 6
C) Go into the registry and navigate to

Code: Select all

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\3Dconnexion\3Dconnexion Add-In for SolidWorks\Part\0
(Assuming you current configuration is "SolidWorks Part 0")
D) Which value has Button06?

Then unload and reload the 3Dconnexion add-in through "Tools - Add-ins". Then reopen the registry-editor - has Button06 still the same value?

Then restart SolidWorks, load a part and reopen the registry - which value has Button06 now?

Hi Robert,

I've followed your instructions to the letter. All during it button06 has the value sketch sketch (with a box between the first sketch & 2nd sketch)

Sketch still does not work :(

Just to be sure - please confirm this error-characteristics:

A) When you start SolidWorks, Sketch is mapped to a button
B) This button does not work
C) You remap sketch to the same button
D) The button works as long as you do not restart SolidWorks

Please try the following:

A) Open SolidWorks
B) Right-click on the toolbar and select "Customize"
C) Enable the "Macro" toolbar
D) Go to the "Commands"-tab
E) Choose the "Sketch" Category
F) Drag and drop the "Sketch"-command to the Macro-toolbar

Then open the 3Dconnexion Button Mapping Panel for SolidWorks (do not use the 3Dconnexion Control Panel!) and expand the "Macro" category. Inside you will find the Sketch command which was moved to the Macro-toolbar. Map this command to a button on your 3D mouse. Then close the Button Mapping Panel with "Ok".
