catia, rotating center

Post by Zotz »

I'm using Catia V5.17 and SpaceNavigator with newest software.

Basicly the only problem is that SpaceNavigator takes rotating center point from zero point of Catia's absolute coordinate system.
My models ("hand size") may have as far as 25 meters from absolute zero... That means, every time I try to rotate by SpaceNavigator, the part will immediately go far outside my screen.
It is not possible to transform parts to absolute zero because they are used also in assemblies (Pilots don't like if I move aeroplane's rudder in the middle of flighdeck! :D )

:?:
Is it possible to take screen center as a rotating point?
Or is it possible to put axis system somewhere my part and use it as a rotating point?
Is this same problem (at this moment, it is problem) with SpaceExplorer?

Answer which will solve this would be absolutely wonderful! I've used some old 3dconnexion mouse with Unigraphics and I really love that.

Hi Zotz,

To reset the 3D Mouse rotation point in CATIA, all you need to do is move the normal mouse cursor over where you want the rotation point to be and press the middle button of your normal mouse.

Hi Zotz,

It is always simple when you know it. Always difficult when you do not.

I've added an article on our Knowledge Base for the benefit of other CATIA users.
